Philip Rivers' turnaround season has earned him the Comeback Player of the Year award.
Rivers led the San Diego Chargers to a wild-card playoff spot with four straight victories to close out the schedule, giving them a 9-7 record. He led the league with a 69.5 completion percentage and threw for 32 TDs against 11 interceptions.
Finishing behind Rivers were Denver running back Knowshon Moreno and Philadelphia left tackle Jason Peters with eight selections apiece. Tampa Bay cornerback Darrelle Revis got six votes.
Rivers is the second Chargers quarterback to win the award; the man he replaced, Drew Brees, won in 2004.

Longtime New England Patriots offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia, who spent 30 years with the franchise, is retiring.
"Dante Scarnecchia is a Patriot and NFL legend who defied the phrase 'not for long,'" Patriots coach Bill Belichick said in a statement Wednesday. "In an industry of constant change, Dante remained a fixture here for the simple reason that he helped every player reach his highest potential, regardless of whom he was, how he was acquired or how much raw talent he had. In whatever category a coach can be assessed -- evaluator, teacher, motivator, problem solver, disciplinarian, team player, winner -- Dante is as good as it gets. As many games as he helped us win and as much as we would like to work with Dante forever, we are blessed with the opportunity to have been with him as long as we were."

| NFL Extra points going to the past? |
The extra point is the nonalcoholic beer of football : nobody asked for it in the first place ; nobody has ever gone to a game for one ; nobody really wants it around ; but since it doesn't do much harm , it's hung around for decades now . NFL Total Access's Rich Eisen called the extra point the "penny" of the NFL , and that too seems pretty appropriate .

For
the first time in NFL history, the best offense (by yards and scoring)
will face the best defense (by yards and scoring) in the Super Bowl.
Best of the best
This will be the fifth time since the AFL and NFL merged that the league’s top-scoring offense played the top-scoring defense in the Super Bowl, the first since the Buffalo Bills(top offense) and New York Giants(top defense) met to close the 1990 season.

The 2014 Pro Bowl is the upcoming NFL's all-star game for the 2013 season. It will take place at 2:00 pm local time on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii. The game will be televised nationally by NBC and will be the final Pro Bowl on network television before exclusive rights move to ESPN.
If you don't know, Pro Bowl 2014 will be playing with new rules. In the largest change to the Pro Bowl, the teams will no longer be AFC vs. NFC, and instead be selected by captains in a fantasy draft (similar to the current National Hockey League All-Star Game since 2011) on January 22. The teams will be called Team Rice and Team Sanders, after Pro Football Hall of Famers Jerry Rice and Deion Sanders who have been selected as alumni team captains and who will assist in the fantasy draft.

| Sherman - Crabtree "war" still continue |
The NFC Championship Game was decided when Richard Sherman made the play of the game. Then he followed it up with the quote of the day.
Sherman deflected a Colin Kaepernick pass intended for Michael Crabtree in the end zone. The ball was intercepted by linebacker Malcolm Smith with 22 seconds remaining to seal the Seahawks' 23-17 win against the San Francisco 49ers.
After the game, Sherman, known for his bold statements, took a shot at Crabtree.

Oddsmakers had trouble picking the favorite in what figures to be one of the most evenly matched -- and heavily bet -- Super Bowls ever.
Bettors knew who they wanted, though, putting early money on Denver and making the Broncos a slight favorite to beat the Seattle Seahawks in most of this city's legal betting parlors.
Denver was favored by 1 point at several books in the early betting, while others had the Broncos as high as a 3-point pick. The move to the Broncos came after some books had initially made the Seahawks as much as a 2-point pick in the game.

Rosters for the 2014 Pro Bowl were released weeks ago, but, as is always the case, injuries and player availability will result in additional players being called in as reinforcements.
Since the NFL moved the Pro Bowl to a week in front of the Super Bowl instead of a week after it, those playing in the title game are unavailable for the all-star festivities. The league designates alternates for such cases. With five Denver Broncos and six Seattle Seahawks heading to Super Bowl XLVIII instead of Hawaii, the league will be on the lookout for nearly a dozen fill-ins.
Injuries also take their toll. Most notably, San Francisco 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman will miss the game after suffering a severe knee injury in the NFC Championship. Injuries will also keep Adrian Peterson and Calvin Johnson away from Hawaii.

The Denver Broncos are heading to Super Bowl XLVIII after dominating the New England Patriots to win the AFC Championship game 26-16.
Peyton Manning threw for two touchdowns and more than 400 yards to beat Tom Brady in the latest instalment of their great quarterbacking rivalry, but it was Denver's clock management which was at the heart of the Broncos' victory.

The Denver Broncos held off a late rally by the San Diego Chargers to reach the AFC Championship game and set up another Peyton Manning vs Tom Brady battle.
The Broncos eventually won 24-17 after leading 17-0 going into the final quarter before the Chargers finally woke up. Until the final quarter San Diego had looked lost in the windy conditions at Mile High, conceding repeated neutral-zone infractions and failing to show any adventure on offense.
